The GRE General Test measures skills in three areas: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Analytical Writing.
The Analytical Writing section will always be first. The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections may appear in any order after the Analytical Writing section.
The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections are section-level adaptive. The first section of each measure (i.e., Verbal and Quantitative) is of average difficulty. The difficulty level of the second section of each of the measures depends on your overall performance on the first section.

To register for the GRE tests you need to create a free MyGRE account.
When you create an account, make sure the name you use exactly matches the name printed on the identification (ID) documents you’ll present on the day of your test. See the Identification requirements here.
You can take the GRE General Test once every 21 days, up to five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period (365 days). This applies even if you canceled your scores on a test taken previously.
The GRE Subject Tests are offered 2 weeks per month in September, October and April at computer-delivered centers worldwide. The tests can also be taken at home on certain dates during those 3 months.
